Pre-Engineered Building

PEB

Pre-Engineered Buildings (PEB) have widespread international popularity for larger industrial and commercial-type structures due to its design efficiencies and associated cost savings.

A Pre-Engineered Building can be lighter than a conventional steel building by up to 30%. Lighter steel-framing not only provides costs savings through tonnage reduction, but can be beneficial in other aspects, including reduced foundations and Green Star credits.

Historically, the primary framing structure of a Pre-Engineered Building is an assembly of I-shaped members. In PEB’s, the I-beams are formed by welding together steel plates to form the I section. The framing members can taper (varying in web depth) according to the local loading effects, with smaller sections adopted in areas of lower loads and stresses. Further efficiencies are found when combining this design technique with higher grades of steel.

Fe Portal can optimise any steel-framed structure utilising the benefits of PEB, through value-engineering or designing from concept.
